The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
Făgăraş is a small city with short distances to travel, without a developed public transport. Local Authority aims to establish “The Walking Bus” as a healthy and sustainable alternative to driving to school. Special stations will be created and volunteers will be nominated to accompany children to school.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Among the expected results of the plan, we can note:
- reducing the air pollution and gas emissions (20% less - see Convent of Majors)
- reducing the car traffic in the city (20% less)
- using an alternative way of transport to go to school and to work (50% of the persons)
- involving scholars in the process of the reflexion on green (no polluting) ways of transport
- developing a multimodal platform or at least, a network of bike lines
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Pedestrianisation
  • Extension or creation of new greenways
Public transport services
  • The development of accessible transport services for all
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
Accessibilities
  • Lowering of pavements
  • Launch of accessibility plans
New forms of vehicle use and ownership
  • Launch of online car-pooling and car-sharing schemes
Freight distribution
  • Use of clean vehicles
Mobility management
  • Adoption of school travel plans
  • Create/establish mobility centers and on-line information services (eg travel planner)
  • Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
