Detailed description (English): Looking for a parking space is a worldwide problem for 290 million people in big cities and wastes 1% of all fossil fuels. The struggle to find a vacant parking spot costs time, money and nerves every day. The vision of ParkTAG is to end the parking hassle for everyone. The company developed a crowd-sourced technology that detects free kerbside parking and notifies users who are looking for a parking space automatically. Possible users are inhabitants of large cities and urban areas worldwide, who own a smart phone and a car, but don’t have access to private parking.
In August 2015, ParkTAG started a project together with the European Commission, called SOUTHPARK – SOcial and Universal Technology for searcHing local PARKing space.
This project is part of Horizon2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
In the context of the SOUTHPARK project, ParkTAG wants to scale up and roll out the technology in Europe. To identify the mobility and parking situations in different European metropolitan areas, this study takes a closer look at parking in Europe and the environmental factors for the solutions dissemination.

Target group(s): Possible users are inhabitants of large cities and urban areas worldwide, who own a smart phone and a car, but don’t have access to private parking.
Objectives: Searching for parking in urban areas is a real hassle that costs time, money and stress. On average, drivers use 2-3 parking spots per day and regardless of investments in new infrastructures, today almost 25% of traffic in urban areas is due to parking search.
Expected Outcomes: The app works via community involvement and therefore it is free of charge. We expect to get people to install the app to enlarge the European parking community .
