Detailed description (English): Corks first PARK(ing) Day day took place in 2014 and will take place again this year on Friday the 18th of September. Park(ing) Day 2015 in Cork is supported by Cork City Council and Cork County Council who are providing spaces at the South Mall, Bridge Street, Western Road and Ballincollig.
Participants in this year’s event include An Taisce Green Schools, who will transform a space in Ballincollig Village and are offering some Bike maintenance and blinging bikes, you can then cycle your blinged bike at the Rebel Pedal on Sunday! The HSE Health Promotion Unit will transform a space on Western Road whilst Churchfield Community Trust & Blackpool Garden & Café will create a mini park on the South Mall.
PARK(ing) Day is about creating awareness of sustainable travel and the need for better streets and public spaces. Consistently the cities with the most liveable streets are rated as the best cities to live and do business in. Good quality public spaces also make people healthier and happier.
Parking Day in Cork is organised in conjunction with the Transport and Mobility Forum (Cork) and supported by Cork County Council and Cork City Council.
Target group(s): The general public and groups that wish to participate in the initiative.
Objectives: To highlight the attaractiveness and need for more public open spaces in the city and other urban areas.
Expected Outcomes: Great awareness of the possibility of making the public realm in our streets better for people. We got good coverage in the media last year, perhaps as it was the 1st time to do this, but we are hoping for good coverage again this year.
