Detailed description (English): Last year contest was, together with the informal talk 'Bicycle and local businesses', selected as MOBILITY ACTION Best Practice and presented in at the EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK spring Workshops in April in Brussels.
The contest also got the attention from local and national media, it was highlighted by the German Environment Agency and is one of Ciclaveiro's initiatives included in the 'EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK Best Practice Guide 2016'.
This year contest, with a more specific theme, tries to raise awareness among shop owners, costumers and passers-by of how local business in the city of Aveiro, and the city itself, could be more efficient, sustainable and people-friendly if all the multiple activities related to business were done using the bicycle as a mode of transportation.
The goal is also to leave the seeds for more bike-friendly businesses, with all the advantages for both shops owners and costumers in general.
Target group(s): Shop owners, managers and costumers, and passers-by in general.
Objectives: Promote cycling as a daily means of transportation, the use of bicycle in business activities, and encourage shop owners to create bike-friendly shops and attract bicycle users.
Expected Outcomes: 35 shops participated in the contest, up from 22 in last year's edition.
Coverage by the local newspaper started as soon as the contest was launched, and more coverage and attention to the bicycle in Aveiro is expected.
