Participation 2009

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
- Kids cycling competition trough new cycling line;
- Seminar for Intelligent Energy and Energy Efficiency in Dobrich Municipality;
- Exhibition of children's drawings under the slogan "The Sun - a source of Energy and Improving City Climate;
- Formal signing of the European Charter of the Cities;
- Massive cycling parade;
- Campaign "Lets Switch off the Lights for 5 Minutes";
- Concert devoted to the Sun;
- Initiative of Dobrich Municipality "Free of Charge Trolley Transport"
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The whole pedestrian zone positioned in the City Center is restricted to the private cars.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Pedestrianisation
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
  • Extension or creation of new greenways
Public transport services
  • The development of accessible transport services for all
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
  • New traffic regulations: traffic circulation and parking
Accessibilities
  • Create wheelchair ramps
  • Lowering of pavements
  • Enlargement of pavements
  • Create useful tool for people with reduced mobility
Mobility management
  • Adoption of school travel plans
  • Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
  • Elaboration of educational materials
  • Development of travel plans / mobility plans in consultation with local stakeholders
  • Development of systems and equipment for measuring air quality in public places
