Participation 2015

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • New traffic regulations: traffic circulation and parking
  • Create wheelchair ramps
  • Enlargement of pavements
More details on permanent measures:

The permanent measure that the Ministry of Environment will implement is to declare "The Day Without Cars" at the Gral. San Martin Park of Mendoza.

Is important to mention that the Gral. San Martin Park is the green lounge of Mendoza City and has an extension of 300 hectares. The Jurisdiction of this Park, as well as all the Natural Reserves of the province, belongs to the Ministry of Lands, Environment and Natural Resources.

The day choosed is the 21st of September instead of the 22nd due to the huge amount of citizens that visit the Park to celebrate also the Spring and the Student Day on the 21st of September.

The Legal Norm number that will grantee that The Day Without Cars will take place every year from now on is 248/2015.

On the other, hand during this year several areas of the Park were restored and improved. Can be mentioned: Improvement of bicycle network around the lake, enlargement of pedestrian zones, construction of wheel chairs ramps and improvements of pavements and accesses.
