Participation 2016

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Public transport services
  • Development of new technologies to improve public transport
  • Launch of accessibility plans
Mobility management
  • Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
  • Organisation of regular fora or surveys on public opinions and ideas

- Project “Urban regeneration of public spaces within residential blocks in the districts Alfa, Faleza Mureș, Confecții, Micalaca, Aurel Vlaicu and City Centre – including the protected area” - large project to build and modernise the parking infrastructure, roads, sidewalks and green areas in in eight residential areas - under a loan agreement signed with the EBRD for EUR 20 mil. , on July 20, 2016)

- New plans and local strategies developed, all including sustainable mobility measures:
- Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan
- Green Strategy
- City Development Strategy
- Health Development Plan

- E-ticketing system for public transport to be implemented in the future - documentation under development
