Cork organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Cork City Council intends to promote the concept of "Travel Smarter, Live Better" by encouraging sustainable transport modes such as walking, cycling and public transport. In doing so we will target a wide audience and promote
- the health and quality of life benefits of more active lifestyles,
- reduced air and noise pollution,
- and less congestion.
Cork City Council is hosting ITS Ireland Conference on 24th September, with the objective of promoting road safety, efficiency and best practice in management of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services.

Cork implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)

Car-free day Car-free day

Cork carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
St Patrick's Street is Cork's principal shopping street and currently can be accessed by all vehicles. For 22nd September we propose to close the street to all traffic other than pedestrian, cyclist and public transport.
