Gharb organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2020, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
Introduction of Solar Powered Traffic Signs.
17 September
Provision or bulky refuse service free of charge encouraging residents in using this service and thus avoiding the depositing of such items in our valleys or countryside.
18 September
Following the previous editions of the European Mobility Week participating, the Council has always organised with success the Al Fresco Dining. For this edition the Council is proposing once again to hold this event where the restaurants in the main square area will be invited to participate. They will be setting up an outside restaurant including entertainment. The setup will be according the health department guidelines including social distancing.
19 September
the square will be closed to traffic where the Council will hold activities promoting mobility, good air quality, use or natural plants for cooking or as an alternative to medicine and promotion of eco-friendly alternatives that can be used.
A robotics session will also be delivered by a professional for teenage kid.
A variety of stalls will be set up to include amongst others healthy beverages, distribution of plants and trees, natural products, natural treatments and consultations.
20 September

21 September
This day will include activities for the elderly with the provision of the eco-car. Also a get together for the elderly adhering to the guidelines of the health department including social distance.
22 September
A day dedicated to the young residents of our locality. Entertainers and personnel in this field will create a morning full of activities for them. The activities which will be held at Gharb Square, Pjazza taz-Zjara tal-Madonna . The very young ones from 3 year olds to 7 year olds will have an area in the square allotted for them where entertainers will be organising art sessions including sensory art, rainbow sponge art, string pulling art and a lot of more fun art games.
The older kids from 8 years to 12 years the entertainers will hold a treasure hunt in the square. Children will benefit from exercising their body and mind. This will also help them in problem solving skills and teach them the benefits of working in a teamwork.
The war shelter located in the same square will also be opened so that a guide will be available to give information about these shelters, how they were built and used amongst others.
An area of the square will include traditional games such as passju and brilli. The children will be encouraged to participate in these games. In organising this area, the Council aims at keeping these traditional games alive.
All the locality children will be encouraged to use their bicycles to come to the square to participate to these activities in order to teach them the importance of exercising and therefore of living a healthy lifestyle without the necessity to always use a car to travel for short distance especially in the same locality.
The Council will also provide a healthy meal for each participating child.

Car-free day Car-free day

Gharb carries out a Car-Free Day 2020 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
