Permanent measures Permanent measures

Quito implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

Car-free day Car-free day

Quito carries out a Car-Free Day 2006 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
We propose to restrict three city points to private car. One within the main tourist services and entertainment zone in the city core. The second at the south of the city in a very crowded street where working people use to have lunch and dinner. The third zone is the historical centre of Quito, the largest Cultural World Site in Latin America.
