Ploiesti organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2006, taking into account the annual theme.

Growth in car ownership and mobility has traditionally been associated with economic growth, because the purchase and use of a car (or a second car) is a priority activity for most people as incomes rise. But the growth in mobility associated with such continual increases in car ownership is now widely accepted as being unsustainable.
This is the reason for which, since 2000, for Ploiesti municipality the celebration of the Mobility Week became a tradition.
We intent to involve all the week, day by day the population, the community actors through the concepts of “learning the city without cars‿ or “building a sustainable city‿ to participate.

Being a city part of CIVITAS SUCCES and SPICYLES European projects, Ploiesti already started to implement some permanent measures like:
- Introduction of Clean and energy efficient vehicles
- Development of a Clear Zone
- Stimulation of collective transport modes
- New concepts for the distribution of goods
- Planning for alternative transport modes
- Development of GPS and a new ticketing system for Public Transport
- make new bike lanes

16 September:
Launching of the Mobility Week by press releases and TV, promoting by posters leaflets in bus stations and in all Public Transport.
A „respect‿ campaign towards all passengers, in particular those needing assistance (disabled people, older people).

22 September:
The day: „IN TOWN WITHOUT MY CAR!‿

From 22 to 24 September, Blvd. Independentei, a central zone, will be blocked for motorized vehicles with panels painted with the Mobility Week and CIVITAS SUCCES and SPICYLES European projects logos.
From this day this area will became clean area and will be available only for walking and cycling.
Motor vehicles are completely prohibited.

Set up public surveys to find out:
- What the customers think about the Public Transport services and what their opinions for the improvement of the alternative Public Transport are;
- What citizens know about CLIMATE CHANGES and how even small changes in our daily behaviors can help prevent greenhouse emissions without affecting our qualities of life.

“TRY OUT AND BECOME AN EVERYDAY CICLIST‿ - Bicycle, skateboard, roller skating contest for children and teenagers on the Independentei Blvd.

Leaflets and brochures for promoting the cycling routes - which will be made in CIVITAS SUCCESS and SPICYLES European projects - will be distributed.

Environment Protection Agency will measure the level of air pollution in a day with traffic, in order to compare the figures from this year with those the previous years. This action will support the future measures for minimize the pollution impacts that are also foreseen in CIVITAS SUCCESS and SPICYLES European projects.

Street Exhibition - Promoting the message of the Mobility Week through drawings and paintings realized by the „Pedagogic High school‿ students.

Environment Protection Agency will measure the level of air pollution in a day without traffic.

The program activities will be organized by Ploiesti City Hall and supported by RATSP through its Department for Environment Protection and Prahova County Environment Protection Agency.
