Activities within the week Activities within the week

Koprivnica organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2007, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
1. Relocation of traffic in a three-year programme by which three streets in the immediate town centre will be closed to motorized traffic in the length of 1.5 m, by which the pedestrianized area will be enlarged by 1.2 ha.
2. Introduction of public transport based on bio-diesel fueled buses to be used by schoolchildren, commuters and other citizens.
3. „100% Accessibility“ – promoting the upgraded successful accessibility programme by adding tactile and sound-based traffic signs for visually challenged citizens.
4. Enlargement of the green areas by 30% in the three-year-programme.
5. New City Bike – promotion of the new generation of City bike rental scheme of 150 bicycles
6. School Bike – new bicycle rental scheme for High school students
7. Calm traffic zones: traffic in 13 streets and squares in the vicinity of schools and kindergartens will be calmed down by means of speed limit and raised street crossings
8. „Street liberation“ schools and kindergarten projects in the streets closed to motorized traffic as well as citizens' promenades ( roller-skaters, mothers with babies and toddlers, the wheelchair races)
9. Pedestrain walkways and cycling tracks will be promoted in several ways : by new signs, walking marathons and walking trains, cycling promotion tours and promotion of new traffic safety measures
10. Mobility Survey – extensive survey on citizens' mobility patterns will be conducted in order to upgrade the exisiting municipal sustainable mobility programme.
11. Using alternative modes of travel will be encouraged by competitions of schools and classes as well as by „To Work Without my Car“ contest for companies and public services.
12. Regional network of sustainble mobility cities will be founded, using European Mobility Week as the first common project.

Car-free day Car-free day

Koprivnica carries out a Car-Free Day 2007 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
On September 22, „In Town!Witout my Car!“ day as well as on September 16 and September 21 the area of 20ha will be closed to motorized traffic ( in comparison with 6.5ha of current pedestrian zone). The area involves the immediate town center, including the three streets which will be pedestrianized within the three-year period.
Several other town areas have already been closed to motorized traffic for a day outside the Mobility Week in order to test the citizens' response and continue the public debate on the possibilites of enlarging the pedestrian area.
