Activities within the week Activities within the week

Oslo organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2008, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Samferdselsetaten (The Agency for Road and Transport, municipality of Oslo) is responsible for organizing the European Mobility Week (EMW) for the city of Oslo. This year we have joined forces with Grønn Hverdag and Miljøfestivalen. The theme for EMW 2008 is “clean air for all” and the theme for Miljøfestivalen is “climate”. As the two themes are interlinked we are organizing a number of events throughout the week to promote sustainable transportation, clean air as well as other environmentally friendly activities.

Car-free day Car-free day

Oslo carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
On the 20th of September we are shutting down part of the main street in Oslo, Karl Johans gate, to host a car-free day. Shutting the street down for the day will be a way of letting people enjoy the improved air quality that comes with the lack of vehicles. The event is a fun day out where visitors, as well as the local community, can enjoy one of Oslo’s busy streets in the town centre as a traffic-free urban space. The street will be open solely for pedestrians and cyclists.
