Activities within the week Activities within the week

Velika Gorica organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2008, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
This year activities are organized in a manner that each of seven days of European mobility week is having its subtitle and special activities such as:
Day 1: The day of significantly reduced trrafic in Town
a) The roads in the very centar of the Town a re closed for trrafic;
b) The citizens on the on the roads, especially children, instead of vehicles.
c) Clever and optimal usage of the car: car pooling and car sharing
- At the cross roads the tea shirts will be distributed to the drivers who use their car in optimal manner (all seats in car taken);
- The Mayor of the City will be promoting the car pooling in a way that he will be collecting the passengers from bus stops and taking them to their destination.
- The children and the representatives of the local authorities will be distributing the appropriate badges to the biciylists as a commendation for their usage of alternative mean of transportation;
- The children traffic unit will be placing the badges in a spider shape on the vehicles which are irregularly parked. In a Croatian comprehension, the word spider (pauk) represents the synonym for the vehicle which drags away the irregularly parked vehicles
Day 2

Walking and running Day

a) the intensive course of different ways of hiking will be taking place in all city parks
b) racing in the nature with the purpose of proper orientation

Day 3

Celebrating the Clean air

a) Breaking in the Air quality monitoring Station following with the brief educative speach for the school pupil about the Air quality stations principles of work
b) The kinder garden children spending the whole day time in city parks
c) The specialists - doctors of medicines are teaching the children on how to stay healthy by intensive walking and moving ;
d) The lecture on the experience obtained in mountain hiking to the Croatian mountain of Velebit will be held by the members of the Mountain hiking Association "Velebit".
Day 4

Day dedicated to the mobility of people with disabilities

- in primary schools the low vision children together with other pupils will make preparation in order to produce the signs for classrooms door in Braille letters. Additionally it will be officially announced that all types of specially made signs will be produced for the low vision children attending the school so that their moving around the school will be easier and more
safe.
- The film and photo school section will produce the brief documentary on one day movement of the persons with disabilities around the city of Velika Gorica

Day 5

One Day staying at open Air

- Planting the trees at the land fill site at the place called Mraclin, in the parks, schools and kinder gardens and within the city residence area;
- The presentation newly published Book on Health, movement and sport. the presentation will be held at the open space in front of the City library,
- Procession of the prams in the city park combined with prize game for children.
- Promotion of the ecological vehicle
- Exercising thai chi and capoeira exercises in the city park

Day 6

The day of hiking

The hiking day will start at nine o clock in the morning led by the City Mayor tohether with the city officials. The hiking route will be 4 km long and is planned to gather a number of citizens of all ages. The hiking day will also include the clean air and heaklthy food.

Day 7

Do it without car

Promotion of usage of bicycle and train. The promotion is organized in a manner that will consist of number of activities, such as:
Setting the bicycle site
The bicycle exhibition
The best bicycle gets award

Promotion of train usage as an alternative means of transportation in a way that those who decide to take the train instead of motor car will be provide by train ticket free of charge on the City of Velika Gorica expense.

The organized pre school children groups will be visiting the Capital city, Zagreb by train (maybe for the first time in their life).

The lectures will be held in the Center for children, youngsters and family on the importance of practicing the sport and other physical activities.

Velika Gorica implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

Car-free day Car-free day

Velika Gorica carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The zones restricted to the traffic in general are near by to the very center of the city as well as to the number of schools and kindergarten ant the building where the Center for children, youngsters and family is located. In numbers, that means that around one thousand and nine hundred of children will have the streets free for their activities having no fear of any motor vehicle being around.
