Participation 2008

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Langley Drive in Surbiton is a popular cut through route for cars and vans travelling between the main route of the Ewell Road that serves the A3 and also the Hook Road that serves Chessington.

The precise chosen location on Langley Road is between Penners Gardens and Oakenshaw Close opposite St.Matthew's Primary School. We will be closing a 75metre stretch of this road.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New forms of vehicle use and ownership
  • Launch of online car-pooling and car-sharing schemes
  • Other: Introducing 2 car club bays
