Car-free day Car-free day

Bjelovar carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Provisional car free zone, which is going to be pronounced on September 21st, is the city center. This is the heart of the town, the place where a lot of action is going on every day. It is the zone where a lot of public institutions are located but also private shops and bars. The main characteristic of this zone is a big chestnut tree park which is the reason why the atmosphere is nice and peaceful. The only thing that is ruining this atmosphere are private cars which are allowed to drive around the park. Our initiative to promote car free city center is one step forward towards permanent measurment and that is closing the center for private cars and we are hoping that this will happen in nearby future.
