Activities within the week Activities within the week

Vilnius organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2009, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
1. The Mayor of Vilnius Mr. V. Navickas in newspapers (''Lietuvos rytas", ''Vilniaus dienos" and ''15 min") invite people to participate in the European Mobility week "Improving City Climates" and international European day ''Day without the car".
2. The questionnaire survey "Clean transport for the citizens of Vilnius" Drivers of public transport means will have opportunity to express their views and suggestions about traffic problems and promotion of sustainable transport.
3. Press conference "Clean air for all" related to the European Mobility week and international European Day " In Town Without My Car" on 4 of August 2009 and on 15 of September, in Vilnius Municipality.
4. European Mobility Week "Clean air for all".
4.1. The CO2 level control in Vilnius city - campaign. During the European Mobility Week 16 - 22 September 2009, will be initiated a campaign on CO2 level check. A certain organization will check CO2 level in different problematic places of Vilnius city. The purpose of the action is to gather the information whether the increase of the number of transportation means results the greater environment pollution.
4.2 The Campaign "Child passenger – safe traffic participant” (16-22 of September, 2009). During the European Mobility Week will be initiated a campaign “Child passenger – safe traffic participant” where Vilnius city drivers and passengers will be observed in order to gather information whether they follow the traffic rules, whether they are polite and whether they are good examples for their children, future traffic participants.
The campaign will be organized by Vilnius healthy city bureau together with the Public police traffic observation bureau in Senior Vilnius city police office.
4.3. The campaign "Let's cycle to the school"(16-22 of September, 2009). Pupils and their teachers will be encouraged not to use cars but to cycle to their schools. The students will observe how many pupils are coming to schools by bicycles.
4.4 The exhibitions of non-motorised transport means at schools (16-22 of September, 2009). The idea is to encourage pupils to create exhibitions about non motorised transport means.
4.5. The youth and children exhibition of posters "Clean transport for Vilnius citizens" in Vilnius Municipality. (16-22 of September, 2009). The exhibition will be organized by Vilnius healthy city bureau.
4.6. Event "Legend of Vilnius" - mention of Autumn equinox, Lithuania name 1000 years and of Vilnius establishment.
5. The international day "Day without the car" on 19 of September 2009.
5.1. Bicycle trip - participants: schools, public organizations, communities and citizens.
5.2. Event in the Towns hall Square. There will be figure cycling contest, race and concert. Also citizens can take part in a velocart contest, ride bicycles, dance and sing on the stage.
5.3. Fire event. This event reflects the human and natural harmony.
6. On 21-22 of September 2009 all the municipal staff will be inviting to leave cars at home and go to work by bicycle.

Car-free day Car-free day

Vilnius carries out a Car-Free Day 2009 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The access for private cars is prohibited in Gediminas Avenue during certain hours.
