Amsterdam organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2009, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Various activities organised to improve local air pollution and reduce CO2 emissions, for example the "Electric Avenue"market, where people could see and try out electric vehicles. The Car Free Day and other activities are related to the programme nieuwamsterdamsklimaat" (New Amsterdam Climate).

Car-free day Car-free day

Amsterdam carries out a Car-Free Day 2009 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
For the Amsterdam Car Free Day (on the 20th of September) much of the Amsterdam downtown area was restricted to the private car.
