Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Temporary close of 20 km long mix. used roads, during the bicycle demonstration. Car free zone in one street at least for two days. One of the streets will be allowed to use only for public transport and for passangers and cyclists (not even for parking!). This street is used by aprox.: 5000 cars / day. at the moment.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
Pedestrianisation
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
  • Extension or creation of new greenways
Public transport services
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport services (express services, increase frequency etc)
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Reduction of outside parking zones
  • Create park and ride stations
Accessibilities
  • Launch of accessibility plans
New forms of vehicle use and ownership
  • Launch of online car-pooling and car-sharing schemes
Freight distribution
  • Use of clean vehicles
Mobility management
  • Adoption of workplace travel plans
  • Adoption of school travel plans
