Activities within the week Activities within the week

Glasgow organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2009, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Glasgow City Council will begin European Mobility Week by organising a commuter challenge from the West End of the city to the City Centre. This will draw attention to the potential to use other forms of transport apart from the car and hopefully demonstrate the viability of sustainable forms of transport, benefiting the local climate. A range of school projects will be run throughout the week, again illustrating linkages between sustainable transport and climate change.

Car-free day Car-free day

Glasgow carries out a Car-Free Day 2009 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
South Frederick Street, between West George Street and Cochrane Street will be closed to traffic. This is the area immediately outside the City Chambers (HQ for Glasgow City Council).
