Örnsköldsvik (Ornskoldsvik) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2009, taking into account the annual theme.

European Mobility Week 2009

1. Organising a week of activities, taking into account the 2009 focal theme: “Improving City Climates”.

Actions relative to the theme:

• In general - promote the advantage of public transports (buses), cycling and walking as means of transport. One important group is those who commute to and from work.

• The promotion and information is directed broadly to the public and employees.

Organising the “In town Without My Car” event, i.e. setting aside one or several areas that are reserved solely for pedestrians, cyclists and public transports during the entire day.

• The day of “In Town without My Car” will be held on Tuesday 22 September 2009.
• Promotion of active transports (cycling or walking) to the public and employees.
• Promotion on the radio of climate friendly transports by bus, walking and cycling.

The activities will be held at and in the vicinity of the city square which is mainly connected to areas for pedestrians.

• Promotion to choose a climate friendly means of transports on the local authority’s homepage.

Speed reduction on part of a street with heavy traffic in central city.

Car-free day Car-free day

Örnsköldsvik (Ornskoldsvik) carries out a Car-Free Day 2009 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
