Participation 2010

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
Cork City Council intends to promote the concept of "Travel Smarter, Live Better" by encouraging sustainable transport modes such as walking, cycling and public transport. In doing so we will target a wide audience and promote
- the health and quality of life benefits of more active lifestyles,
- reduced air and noise pollution,
- and less congestion.
Cork City Council is hosting ITS Ireland Conference on 24th September, with the objective of promoting road safety, efficiency and best practice in management of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
St Patrick's Street is Cork's principal shopping street and currently can be accessed by all vehicles. For 22nd September we propose to close the street to all traffic other than pedestrian, cyclist and public transport.
