Participation 2010

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
-Round table marking the International day for Preserving the Ozone Layer and discussing this year's theme "Travel Smarter, Live Better", inviting local authorities, educational establishments, transport-related companies, environmental agencies, NGOs
-School pupils and NGOs representatives will organize an action of distributing brochures for rising awareness about the negative impact of vehicle traffic on environment and people's health
-Educational activities with pre-school children, drawings contests, trips and walks around the city, green areas and parks
- "City Tour by Bike"-inviting the citizens to abandon their cars and travel by bike
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
-"Emilian Chitu"Street is situated on the right-side of Crisul Repede River which crosses the city. The street connects the central area of the city to one of the residential districts, including a recreational area with benches on the river side. Presently the Local State Agency for Waters Administration together with Oradea City Hall are doing improvement and modernization works for this part of the city.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Public transport services
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport network (creation of HOV lanes for public transport modes, new stops, new lines, reserved areas etc)
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport services (express services, increase frequency etc)
  • Use of ecological vehicles for public transport fleets
  • Development of new technologies to improve public transport
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
  • New traffic regulations: traffic circulation and parking
  • Elaboration of new residential areas
