Bedford organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
The opening of the bus lanes to sustainable modes of transport is aimed at both, easing congestion, and enhancing the length of cycle lanes in the Town Centre.

The Family Cycle Ride is designed to publicise and demonstrate the positives of active transport, as will the Commuter Challenge, which will also illustrate the alternatives to car travel.

The two new bus services will demonstrate Bedford's committment to more sustainable travel movements into Bedford.

Car-free day Car-free day

Bedford carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The area in the Town Centre that is bounded by High Street, Horne Lane, Greyfriars and Dame Alice Street. Harpur Street runs north south through the middle of this oblong area, and will be the location for the extra pedal cycle racks and Dr Bike, on In Town Without My Car Day.`
