Participation 2010

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
The opening of the bus lanes to sustainable modes of transport is aimed at both, easing congestion, and enhancing the length of cycle lanes in the Town Centre.

The Family Cycle Ride is designed to publicise and demonstrate the positives of active transport, as will the Commuter Challenge, which will also illustrate the alternatives to car travel.

The two new bus services will demonstrate Bedford's committment to more sustainable travel movements into Bedford.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The area in the Town Centre that is bounded by High Street, Horne Lane, Greyfriars and Dame Alice Street. Harpur Street runs north south through the middle of this oblong area, and will be the location for the extra pedal cycle racks and Dr Bike, on In Town Without My Car Day.`
