County Galway organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

European Mobility Week Photographic Competition

The photographic competition is based on the theme Travel Smarter, Live Better with 3 Categories, Primary School, Secondary School & An Adult Category.

European Mobility Week Poetry Competition:

The poetry competition is also based on the theme Travel Smarter, Live Better and is aimed at primary school and secondary school students. It is intened to publish a selection of the entries.

Radio Promotion:

During the period 13th - 17th September 2010, a promotion based on European Mobility Week 2010 is being run on the Breakfast Programme on a local radio station (Galway Bay FM) with a daily prize of a €150 voucher towards the purchase of a bicycle.

Car-free day Car-free day

County Galway carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
'In Town Without My Car' will be marked on Wednesday, 22nd September 2010 in Athenry, Co. Galway with a street closure and parking restrictions applying on Burke's Lane and Market Square.

The event under the title of 'Streets Alive' Athenry will see the streets transformed to host a mini zoo and animal roadshow, smoothiebike, free face painting and balloon modelling and a range of street entertaiment
