Ferrara organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
- Stand and Exhibition Area devoted to Sustainable Mobility, Energy, Driving Safety and Environmental Sustainability

Events from 17th until 26th September - time: from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. / from 3:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)

Exhibition of informative posters, short movies, PC corner where to experience tests for driving license and teen driving license, driving simulators, dissemination of informative leaflets and gadgets on the themes of sustainable mobility, renewable energies, environmental sustainability, and driving safety.

Exhibition of pictures on the theme of driving safety by the students from the High Schools of the Province of Ferrara.

>> Pencils for safety

Authors’ drawings on the theme of driving safety.

>> Magnificent gasteropods

Creative workshop in cooperation with the Associations Awalé e Ri-girandola.
Activities addressed to children (from 5 years old up) aimed at realising small objects made by second hand materials.

>> Vehicle Licensing Office of Ferrara

A mobile station used as a mobile Office of the Vehicle Licensing Office.

>> Bicycles fix it right

Complimentary check-up for bicycles in cooperation with Ricicletta Project – Social Cooperative Il Germoglio ONLUS – renting point Riciletta, promotional campaign for the collecting and reusing of old bicycles.
This project gives the opportunity to train and give an occupational inclusion of persons at risks of social exclusion, by transforming what looks like waste (wrecks, old and abandoned bicycles) into a resource in favour of sustainable mobility.

>> Safe Guide

Simulation of a city route for pedestrians, cyclists and small electric cars in a dedicated area close to the Informative Stand addressed to children and teenager, in cooperation with the Municipal Traffic Police of Ferrara and other Municipalities.

>> Crash Test

From the 23rd to the 26th September, a simulator crash test will be at disposal of all the visitors aimed at experiencing the danger of the car impact in case of non-use of seatbelts.

>> Piedibus (Footbus) Project

Primary schools of the Province of Ferrara will organise the Piedibus (Footbus) through safe and accompanied paths for going to school on foot, in cooperation with the Province of Ferrara and the Province Educational Office.

A team of policemen with vehicles, breathalyzers, lasers and informative material.

>> Let’s move on foot

Pedestrian route in the Parco Urbano (Urban Park) and the Mura (Medieval Walls), guided by an instructor UISP (Italian Union Sports for Everyone), equipped with step counters and calories calculators.
This initiative is addressed to children of the primary schools in order to make them be aware of a healthy and active style of living and to promote the practice of walking.

>> Gardens of the "Grattacielo" (Skyscraper’s Garden): Viale Cavour

In the framework of the Legality Feast promoted by the Municipality of Ferrara, the Municipal Traffic Police of Ferrara and the Municipal Centre of Social Mediation will organise a workshop on the driving training addressed to children with the simulation of a city route by bicycle, including different traffic conditions.

On the 25th September, the train tickets on the line Codigoro-Ferrara and Suzzara-Ferrara will be complimentary, in cooperation with FER, Emilia-Romagna Regional Railway.

Ferrara implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
Pedestrianisation
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)

Launch of seamless transport modes to facilitate access to business areas or other social areas

Car-free day Car-free day

Ferrara carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Traffic restraints will involve the whole Urban Area (inside and outside the Medieval Walls) corresponding to the built up area (specified in a special map and identified by specific traffic signals).
The restraints are addressed to all kind of vehicles except for: hybrid, electric vehicles, Euro 4 (in accordance with European Directive 98/69/EC) vehicles, Euro 5 (in accordance with European Directive 715/2007/EC) vehicles, Euro 3 and Euro 2 vehicles equipped with anti-particulate filters, LPG and methane vehicles, car pooling and car sharing (in accordance with previous requirements), Euro 2 and Euro 3 motorbikes.
