Activities within the week
Reykjavik organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.
The city hosts in cooperation with local group called "Carfree lifestyle" an afternoon conference focusing on travel modes in the city. The annual family bicycle day will be held Saturday 18 september with participation fram the town mayor along with mayors from the surrounding municipalities. At the city hall the mayor of Reykjavik will hand out the brand new pedestrian- and cycle route map and a Municipalities around the capital area co-organize several events at EMW 2010.
An exhibition of eco-friendly cars will be held at kopavogur, just outside Reykjavik.
The opening of
www.samgonguvika.is (the Icelandic EMW-webpage) will take place in the beginning of the week. The webpage will show all events from participating municipalities in Iceland. Reykjavik city has put great effort into working with the webpage along with the Embassy of the Environment and a neighbouring municipality (Mosfellsbær).

Reykjavik implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
Car-free day
Reykjavik carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Several streets in downtown Reykjavik have been restricted to car traffic all summer and will be so until the end of the Mobilbity week.
On September 22 parking lots at local day care centres will also be closed as the day marks the beginning of the We Walk to Day Care campaign in Reykjavik.
