Uzhhorod organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2011, taking into account the annual theme.

Uzhgorod city council started sustainable mobility actions at the very beginning of this year with introduction of permanent changes in the transportation scheme. Main actions taken were: closing of the central part of the city for the weekend (Friday evening - Sunday evening) and holidays; development of the bicycle lanes scheme and marking of the bicycle lanes; repair of the road surface at the main streets in the city; building of bicycle parking spots.

Car-free day Car-free day

Uzhhorod carries out a Car-Free Day 2011 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Zone, restricted for the private cars, public transport on September, 22 is the road along the embankment (1.8 km) which is usually taken by cars to shorten the way from the remoted areas to the central part. This road goes along the pedestrian street, which is used by mothers with children, elder people and families. The road leads to one of the most popular entertainment areas in the park.
During the car-free day the road will be closed and the following activities are planned: children drawing competition on the road surface; official opening of the bicycle lane; "burn calories, not gasoline!" - group excercises; bicycle competition "Caraful bicycle".
