Activities within the week Activities within the week

Gdynia organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2012, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
For European Mobility Week 2012 Gdynia prepared a range of interesting sustainable transport events.

For cyclists Gdynia will organize “Safe cycling in a city” workshop. The aim of this workshop is to show how to cycle in city in a safe way. Workshop will consist of two parts: lecture and a ride with instructors. The lecture will be a presentation of Gdynia Cycling Officer who will tell participants about bicycle equipment and its influence on traffic safety and traffic law. Later, participants will ride the streets of the centre of Gdynia together with instructors. After a ride there will be discussion and Gdynia Cycling Officer will give advice and answer cyclists’ questions.

For pupils Gdynia offers visits in Gdynia public transport operator companies. During trips children will visit bus and trolleybus companies to learn about organizing public transport and to get an answer to the question why public transport vehicles are known as eco – friendly means of transport.

For car drivers Gdynia offers free travels by public transport. The aim is to encourage car users to commute by bus or trolleybus and show them that public transport vehicles are comfortable, modern and passenger friendly.

During the day “In town without my car” there will be an event in a square which is located on a waterfront. The main attractions will be BMX dirt jumping show, cycle race for children and adults, urban game, spinning, bike services and a lot of competitions with prizes.

During European Mobility Week Gdynia will also publish articles on sustainable transport and cycling.

Car-free day Car-free day

Gdynia carries out a Car-Free Day 2012 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The zone restricted to the private car is a street square on a waterfront in the city centre. Around the square there are a lot of tourists attractions such as Gdynia Aquarium, yacht marina, national fleet ships etc. Nearby there are also cultural attractions, for example Museum of the City of Gdynia, Music Theatre, cinema and music pub. Few minutes’ walk from the square there is a beach, boulevard, park and a lot of pubs and cafes. Also, in the square on 22th of September we will celebrate the day “In town without my car” by organizing a family event.
