Sibiu organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2012, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
The THEME is related to the local public transportation which offers a less polluting means of transportation inside the city. We wish to encourage the inhabitants of our city to use the local public transportation instead of their personal vehicles. The activities between September 16th and the 22nd will consist of free of charge trips between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. for all passengers. This time interval is the rush hour for people who enter the afternoon shift.

Sibiu implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Existing bike tracks measuring over 50km long inside the city will continue to be extended
Pedestrianisation
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Most recently rehabilitated roads will be designed with bike tracks

Car-free day Car-free day

Sibiu carries out a Car-Free Day 2012 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The historical center of the city of Sibiu is a very well preserved architectural reservation. The Large Square of the city and partially the Small Square are pedestrian areas, were access by vehicles is banned.

This measure was taken in 2006.
