The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
• Public transports: Free trips on Flexibus and Boca do Vento Lift, "Trips for Trash" action, "Hooray for Public Transport!" action
• Bicycle use: Bicycle ride across the river Tagus from Lisbon to Almada, Bicycle ride “Mobility Cyclable Relay”, Bicycle mini-fair, My bicycle” workshop
• Walking: Launching of website of the “Light rail tram pedestrian itineraries”, Urban walk “Ancient Almada”, Bird watching session at Parque da Paz
• Live streets: Street Market, Vinyl Fair, Cacilhas Gastronomical Festival and “Snackabout” Tour, Street animations, Musical shows, Sport activities
• Green routes: Cyclable itinerary between Cacilhas and Parque da Paz, Free shuttle to the car free area
• Responsible car use: Guided tour and workshop “The cars and the city”, Workshop “Learn the traffic rules and signs”
• Mobility management: Information session on Systems of Urban Logistics
• Health: Yoga and Body Vive open classes, Free medical checkups

Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Following the policy of annual itinerancy of this initiative adopted by Almada City Council, this year the Car Free Day campaign will take place in Cacilhas Borough, centred in the pedestrianized area recently inaugurated. On the 22nd of September, the Rua Cândido dos Reis, the main artery of the borough, will be closed to traffic from 7h00 to 19h00, with the exception of public transports and electrical or hybrid vehicles. The closed area corresponds to a 250 m long street, with a population of about 400 residents and where 32 commercial shops and establishments are located.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Other: Development of new cyclable itinerary between Cacilhas and Parque da Paz
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
  • Other: Construction of cyclable and foot bridge at Parque da Paz
Public transport services
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport services (express services, increase frequency etc)
  • Other: New edition of Public Transports Guide of Almada
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Other: Installation of 100% LED technology in traffic lights
  • Other: Launching of website with indication of pedestrian itineraries from MST stops
Freight distribution
  • New regulations for freight distribution
