Participation 2013

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
Clean Air is a major issue in Aberdeen with most of the city and some surrounding towns failing air quality targets. Aberdeen City is a partner in CARE North carbon reduction programme. The Health and Transport Action Plan works at 3 levels including air quality. The Getabout partnership promotes Active Travel, Car Share and Public Transport use to reduce the number of vehicles in Aberdeen.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
There will be 2 road closure areas during EMW
15/07/13 Cycling Scotland will close the entire beach boulevard (approx 2km) for a mass cycle event
22/07/13 Schoolhill area of Aberdeen City will be closed for the whole day for the car free day, public transport promotion, car club promotion,
