Activities within the week Activities within the week

İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi (Izmir Metropolitan Municipality) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2014, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
During the week of 16-22 September, İzmir City Council, operating with the support of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will organize several actions fully in accordance with this year's theme. Most of the actions will take place in public areas and streets of the city aiming to get the participation of many city residents as possible.
Actions, planned within the framework of European Mobility Week organization are given below:
- A panel on "Sustainable Transportation" will be held on 16th September Tuesday
- During 16-22 September, cartoon exhibition on "Car Free Day"
- Magnets, brochures and promotion materials will be presented to the residents that use public transportation during the week,
- On September 22nd, Car Free Day will be organized,
- Several exhibitions,
- Workshops (yoga, cartoon, origami, painting)
- Concerts,
- Theatre groups performing on streets,
- Dance and fashion exhibitions (on streets)
- Several races and sports activities (on streets)
- Tree and flowers seeding
- Painting and reshaping streets
- Gifting houseplants to the residents of the city for decorating their balconies

Car-free day Car-free day

İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi (Izmir Metropolitan Municipality) carries out a Car-Free Day 2014 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
On September 22nd, Plevne Boulevard will be announced as car free area for 24 hours. Plevne Boulevard is the main connection road that unites two main squares (Gundoğdu Square and Lozan Square). Both squares are the main areas in which cultural and political actions, demonstrations are being held.
Plevne Boulevard is 650 meters long and it hosts one elementary school, several cafes and pubs, shopping and cultural activities. It is a place stands at the centre of the city and live for 24 hours.
