In October 2012, Tisséo-SMTC, public transport authority of the Greater Toulouse has voted a renewed SUMP. In that collaborative work, urban mobility and public transport policy is defined until 2020 with the objective of reducing the individual car use.
The public was entirely part of this process. Indeed, a citizens’ consultation (“Concertation Publique”) and awareness campaign has been organised during 7 weeks at the end of 2011/ beginning of 2012 to give the floor to Toulouse inhabitants on the draft SUMP project.
Important communication means (public meetings; leaflets; brochures; video magazine etc.) have been deployed at the local level to improve understanding and awareness (see the Tisseo TV mag dedicated to the SUMP project: www.tisseo.fr/tisseo-tv/3940).
In fact, in 2012, Tisséo-SMTC has been rewarded as finalist of the 1st edition of the SUMP award dealing with the citizens ‘participation into the SUMP process.
The project that is being implemented is based on 9 main themes and 43 actions and they are all focused on how to improve urban quality of life for citizens.
