Nottingham organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2015, taking into account the annual theme.

Week of activities: This year Nottingham is supporting EMW with an events programme offering 24 events across the City during the week 16th – 22nd September. Activities will be taking place in each day of EMW including community bikes rides, cycle training sessions, Dr Bike services in local communities and activities at Freshers Fairs to highlight travel options to new students. The full programme is available at www.thebigwheel.org.uk/14818 european-mobility-week-2015/ and is being promoted by the event partners through a widespread social media campaign in e-newsletters, Twitter and Facebook.
The highlight of the week will be a car free family street fayre in Nottingham City Centre on Saturday 19th September to highlight the city’s integrated transport offer and to encourage people, to choose, change combine sustainable travel options for their daily journeys the Hockey Street Fayre will offer a wide range of free activities designed to engage people in conversations about sustainable travel and to promote the full range of available sustainable travel services and permanent measures . Overview of the context for the permanent measures selected above.
• The Nottingham urban area has benefited from a significant level of capital and revenue investment over the past 4 years including the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, Green Bus Fund and Local Growth Fund and a number of significant projects have reached fruition in 2015 including:
• Opening of NET Phase Two Tram expansion
• Investment in electric bus fleets and charging infrastructure with 45 electric vehicles in operation on our linkbus network (the largest electric bus fleet in the UK)
• Development of the Citycard smartcard integrated ticketing and retail network which has achieved ITSO compliance across all public transport operators in the urban area to become ITSO compliant; launch of a full
• Suite of Kangaroo multi-operator ticketing variants, provision of a Jobseeker Citycard half-price Kangaroo offer for travel on bus, tram and local rail to address barrier to accesing work and training opportunities and a ticket retail network of 38 on-street ticket (to be extended to 150 in 2016) machines and 140 Payzone points at retail outlets. The Citycard also acts as the Car Club membership card and provides access to Citycard Cycle hire and cycle parking facilities. There are currently 400,000 Citycards in circulation.
• Delivery of an effective community behaviour change programme through a network of innovative Community Smarter Travel Hubs.
• Significant investment and high level political commitment to in making Nottingham a Cycling City in terms of securing a £6.1million capital investment programme through the Local Growth Fund and delivery of a wide range of cycle promotion and support services to get more people cycling more often through projects in communities, schools, colleges and universities and support services through the LSTF programme
The permanent measures selected above for promotion in EMW 2015 represent a taster of the wide range activity and investment to support sustainable travel behaviour and development of integrated transport network taking place in the Nottingham urban area.

Car-free day Car-free day

Nottingham carries out a Car-Free Day 2015 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Our event will take place on Saturday 19 September in the Hockley/Broad Street area of Nottingham City Centre.
What will be happening on 19th September?
A car free day and space in Nottingham City Centre in Hockley’s Creative Quarter, on Broad Street & Goosegate where people can come and find out more about choosing, changing and combining the right travel options for a quicker and more pleasant journey.

The car-free Hockley Street Fayre will provide a fun-packed day of free entertainment between 10AM-5PM including pedal powered smoothie bikes, live music, street entertainment, guided walks, traditional lawn games on our artificial lawn, Dr Bike, rickshaw rides, information stalls, transport advice surgery, pedal powered games, poetry workshop, craft activities. There will also be a free VIP film screening of Wall-E, Disney Pixar’s animation set in the distant future, provoking thought on how we look after the plane at independent cinema Screen 22 on Broad Street.

Visitors to the festival will receive a ‘Nottingham Passport’, if they visit all the attractions on the day they'll be rewarded with a jump in The Big Wheel’s prize pit where they can win theatre tickets, meal vouchers, free travel passes or cycling and walking accessories.

The event will be supported/attended by the local partners providing the following services and activities:
• Big Wheel providing a travel surgery along with support for all journey planning including , route finding, advice about on-street infrastructure (such as cycle parking), ticket options, multimodal journeys and options for local travel. and craft activities encouraging people to think about the travel modes for environmental and air quality reasons.
• The TravelRight project will be providing information including about their Job Seeker offer. There will be maps available for cycling and walking across the whole of Greater Nottingham. The Big Wheel will be providing a drop-off point for people who would like to donate their old bikes to RideWise bike recycling/refurbishing projects. The bikes will be dropped off at the Big Wheel stall and will be stored throughout the day on display at the event.
• Sustrans providing advice about the community travel hubs as well as providing a Dr Bike, recycled bike craft activities and information on community transport hubs and further education support.
• Ridewise providing advice about cycle journey planning, RideWise services, general advice for cyclists - including queries around cycling on tram lines - as well as a Dr Bike and bike maintenance demonstrations, to promote bike maintenance classes. There will be a stall to promote cycle training and cycle centres.
• Playworks (Play streets project) will be talking to the public about reclaiming street space and using open spaces for play. They will be encouraging communities and individuals to get involved to extend the benefits of the EMW beyond the week itself.
• Batribike Electric Bikes providing promotion and demonstration of range of electric bikes - including those within the cycle to work scheme budget. As part of this they will encourage participation in the Cycle to Work scheme.
• City Arts Young Producers project - these are young people who have previously been unemployed. They will be holding a craft workshops encouraging people to think about how they can improve and enjoy their journeys.
• Nottingham City Transport will be bringing along a solo midi bus for the public to access and will be providing a range of information about routes, route planning and ticketing options. They will also be promoting the launch of their wifi fleet.

• City Cycle Ambition cycle infrastructure investment programme and plans
• Citycard Cycles - two bikes will be present along and scheme membership information
• City Car Club – there will be a car club car , along with leaflets and car club members who can explain how to join the scheme, how the scheme works and demonstrate ease of access to the vehicles.
• Kevin and Ellie public transport children’s book giveaways with Kangaroo Mascot
• Nottingham Express Transit tram information to promote the extended service which opened last month

• Cycling for All accessible cycling Sundays
