Participation 2015

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
Exhibition of several non
pollutant vehicles,
historical transports in
Madeira and road prevention;
Shop window decoration related with sustainable mobility theme;
Craft fair;
Conference about smart cities;
Awareness campaign with motorcycles;
Road prevention awareness campaign with children;
Zumba dance and other sport activities;
Conference about smart cities;
Orienteering campaign on Bus;
Mobility party;
Sport activities such as cycling, body combat, power-jump, zumba-fitness, among others;
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Some streets in the city centre will be closed to traffic.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

  • Other: Creation of Kiss n Ride lane near school
Mobility management
  • Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
  • Elaboration of educational materials
  • Permanent access restriction to city centres
More details on permanent measures:

The kiss & ride concept will be aplied in a school located near the city centre. The goal of this concept is to reduce the levels of congestion and facilitate the load and unload operations.
In paralell, an awareness campaign, through the elaboration of pamphlets, leaflets and other educational materials will be hand out to promote this concept

Additionally, some streets will be restricted to car traffic, which will contribute to increase the pedestrian mobility in the city centre.
