Activities within the week Activities within the week

Carlet organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2016, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
18/09 Outdoors lunch at “ELS PINETS” natural area.
To rediscover the beauty of this natural area located at just 2km from the city centre. Both walking and cycling routes are organised, showing how to get there in the most sustainable way.

19/09 We do park correctly in town.
A volunteer’s team will notify all wrong parked cars around the city centre. They will give detailed information about the regulations that the city hall applies.

19-22/09Healthy walks around Carlet.
Carlet Healthcare centre organises a 1 hour walk with patients. The activity includes medical diagnostic.

19-21/09 Debate table.
Three open debates with different topics related to mobility issues, where neighbours and professionals will discuss the existing situation, the problems and the possible solutions.

20/09 Discovering by bike.
The older students from primary school Bosch Marín will ride their bikes around the city. The activity will be leaded by experts in urban security for cyclists, and they will explain them the clues for a secure urban ride. Starting in the schoolyard, the route will be passing through the main streets becoming visible for the rest of the citizens.

21/09 We walk to school.
One of the biggest mobility issues that affect Carlet is the morning rush hour. Most of the parents take their children to school by car, leading to heavy traffic congestion. To avoid this repeated situation, professors, parents and experts have planned three safe walkable routes that are going over the main neighbourhoods. These routes are perfect for children to walk alone to school, gather with classmates before entering the building, and take self-confidence about their city experience. Some volunteers will lead the groups with visible clothing and traffic signals, keeping maximum levels of security during the route.

22/09 City centre without cars.
We want to test a city centre without cars. Closing two of the main access streets and not allowing to park in the few existing on-street parking spaces, we make visible the extra room that is always occupied by cars. We also encourage children to play in the streets, and adults to sit around and chat with their neighbours.

24/09 Parking at weekly flea market.
The flea market actually collapses the city centre every Saturday morning, due to the number of vehicles that mobilise. Trying to avoid traffic jams and bad parking habits, we settle all vehicles that merchants need to use. We organise them in the main street next to the river, gathered depending on their size and controlled thanks to their number plate. After a session where all the merchants were informed, they agreed to participate. As a result, narrow streets from the old city centre are released and citizens are able to walk to the flea market easily.
