Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Closing of the main street in front of the central railroad station (Bangatan) and two commersial streets (Klostergatan & Stora Gråbrödersgatan) for private cars during the week, and permanently for 3 PM to 6 PM weekdays from 1st of June.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Other: Bike lane at first part of Stora Södergatan. Improved JCDecaux system with 17 stations and 250 bikes. More bike parking at bus stops. Prioritized bike crossings.
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
  • Extension or creation of new greenways
  • Other: Bantorget; both new and larger walking area and green. Safety meassures in road crossings for pedestrians in Dalby (village outside of Lund).
Public transport services
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport network (creation of HOV lanes for public transport modes, new stops, new lines, reserved areas etc)
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport services (express services, increase frequency etc)
  • Use of ecological vehicles for public transport fleets
  • Development of new technologies to improve public transport
  • Launch of integrated services for the various public transport modes

  • Other: First new Swedish tramway, (5 km start building dec 2016) in modern history. Free public transport for senior citizens (age 75-). Prolonging of line 5 to Råbylund. Methane-gas from bio waste buses.
Traffic calming and access control scheme

  • Other: Speed reduction of the whole city (and the villages as well) from 50 km/h to 40 km/h on main streets and 30 km/h in residential areas and ouside schools. New and higher fees for parking.
