The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
Friday 15th September -
Launch of European Mobility Week and Go Car Initiative in Westport.
Monday 18th September -
"Carbon Walk" excursion to highlight the links between the carbon cycle, nature, travel and climate change.
Tuesday 19th September - Balance Bike Day - Sharkey hill Pre-School.
Wednesday 20th September - Return of Westport Walks Wesnesday's. Stay alert as Sir Walk a Lot will make a surprise visit to a school.
Thursday 21st September -
Park(ing) Day - a new way to enjoy a town centre car parking space & "Air Pollution and its link with traffic" workshop with the EPA
Friday 22nd September - "World Car Free Day"
Sunday 24th September - Walk, Cycle, Carpool to church as part of Eco Congregations Season of Creation & Covie Street Carnival - celebrate Westport's 250th birthday, bridge street will be a pedestrian only zone from 8a.m. to 8p.m.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Friday 22nd September - Leave your car at home on "World Free Car Day" and avail of a free shuttle train travelling from the Quay to Westport Town Centre and return! & Culture Night Cycle Tour - experience a tour of Westport venues on Culture night by bike. it's a great way to soak up the atmosphere and have fun along the way.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

Pedestrianisation
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
