Participation 2017

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
(1) Partner with UCC to promote cycling (2) Launch Safe Cycling guide
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Other: (1) Improved access to Greenway at Mahon.
Pedestrianisation
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
  • Other: (1) Implementation of lower speed limits at specified schools and residential areas (2) Improved access to Grenway at Mahon
Public transport services
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport network (creation of HOV lanes for public transport modes, new stops, new lines, reserved areas etc)
  • Other: (1) Implementation of Bus Priority, Public Transport Improvements and access in city centre, as Phase 1 of City Centre Movement Strategy (2) Provision of bus gate at Mahonpoint SC
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
