Further info
Westmeath County Council is committed to the ongoing development of the Mullingar to Athlone Greenway which is part of the proposed Galway to Dublin Greenway.
The Mullingar to Athlone Greenway is 44km long with access points provided at various locations along the route.

We are also promoting use of the cycle ways through provision of Free Cycle Tours of Mullingar as part of a Family Funday on September 18th. We are encouraging alternative modes of transport to motor vehicles by way of a Staff Car Free Day and a competition for the public.

Westmeath County Council has also agreed to provide a designated car park space in Athlone to facilitate the location of a car sharing base in conjunction with GoCar . This location which is for an initial 12 month trial basis is in addition to the existing base which is located at Mullingar Rail station and further locations will be considered as demand for the service is established.
