Further info
The Borough of Poole is launching the Poole Car Club in September 2017. The Poole Car Club gives residents, businesses and visitors the benefits of using a car without having to own one. There will be three electric cars and one ultra low emissions vehicle (ULEV), helping to improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions and also increase the visibility of electric vehicles - so people are more likely to try or buy one. It is also a cost effective way for young and new drivers to get around.

Car club cars are an important part of a sustainable lifestyle and will contribute to regeneration of the town centre in Poole. Growing the car club and having shared vehicles readily available reduces the need for people to own cars and can therefore reduce the need for car park spaces on-street and in developments .

The Car club is operated by Co-wheels, a Community Interest Company who provide over 60 car clubs UK wide. Co-wheels members have access to all the vehicles.

Borough of Poole staff will use the car club cars during the working day for business travel, meaning that they can leave their car at home and travel sustainably, knowing that there will be a car club car available if they need a car for work travel. This will reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.

Co-wheels will be recruiting residents, business and visitors to use the initial vehicles evenings, weekend and public holidays. We will be looking for opportunities to help Co-wheels build the car club by adding 24/7 public access vehicles and more shared use BoP/members cars as demand grows.
