Activities within the week Activities within the week

Serres organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2017, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Dissemination activities will take place in cooperation with the Administration of Primary and Secondary Education of Serres, the Association of Merchants, the Public Transport operator, the Municipal cultural company and other entities that will join our cause. Dissemination Material will be distributed in shops in the city centre. Social media will also be used to have a large impact and the message will be communicated to large mailing lists. Press releases will be prepared and communicated, and the official site of the Municipal will host relevant messages. Dissemination will also take place in synergy with different social groups in cultural and other events that are currently being organized in our city by NGOs, on 15-17 September.


Friday 15th September: Pre EMW dissemination
Press Release dissemination announcing the message as well as the activities of EMW 2017 in Serres and its clean, sharing and intelligent implications, Facebook group creation, Distribution of dissemination material to the Association of Shoppers, Education Administrations and other entities.

Week program

Saturday 16th September
Dissemination of EMW message in a scientific conference in Central Public Library of Serres organized by KETHIS («THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER OF SERRES – GREECE») with the sponsoring of the Municipal Cultural Company of Serres. KETHIS's work is focused on people (mainly children) with reduced mobility and its president will welcome the audience to the EMW 2017.
Sunday 17th September:
Multiple events in KETHIS premises with horse riding, theatrical show, exposition of art works, KETHIS's 10th birthday party. Synergy with people with reduced mobility, their instructors and the broad public in order to share the message of the common right to free mobility
Monday 18th September:
A press conference will be organized in the Municipality of Serres with broad media coverage. Shops will place EMW poster on their windows in order to communicate the message to pedestrians. A lottery will be organized in order to offer a cargo bike to a local shopper for greener logistics. Announcement of the start of a painting contest among primary schools on the EMW 2017 theme.
Tuesday 19th September:
Face-to-face dissemination while new bicycle parking equipment will be being installed in different parts of the city, near cycling paths or public buildings. New signing in public loading spaces will be announced in line with the recently adopted relevant municipal regulations for greener urban logistics, following the Serres Sustainable Urban Logistics Plan-SULP. Announcement of the start of a photography contest among secondary education schools on the EMW 2017 theme. Street crossings and ramps maintenance woks will take place near schools during nighttime to enhance safe school trips.
Wednesday 20th September:
A special workshop will be organized on Wednesday 20th in order to show the performance of the Municipality of Serres in favor of Sustainable Mobility, planned actions to follow and EMW presentation. Among other, a bicycle sharing system will announced, financed by the Plan of Sustainable Urban Development of Serres. Starting event of public involvement into the coming Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, to be conducted in the months to follow, financed by the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy. New signing with direction and walking distances will be also be introduced in the city to encourage walking.
Thursday 21st September: 1st European Day Without A Road Death
Synergy with local Public Transport Operator-PTO for Public Transport Use promotion. Road safety promotion activities in synergy with the Primary Education Administration of Serres. Free ride offered by local PTO to schools to the Traffic Education Park of Serres. Welcome and educational activities from the Traffic Planning Department of Serres Municipality. Distribution of gifts and participation diplomas to the children.
Friday 22nd September: Car Free Day
The heart of our city, Karamanli street (beyond its already pedestrianized part) will be closed to traffic with the official participation of the Serres Police Direction and the Traffic Police department. The event will familiarize the public with the coming construction works of pedestrianization in a few weeks and it will involve awareness raising activities with the contribution of primary school pupils, the Traffic Police Department, an info kiosk from a special school for students with reduced mobility and other entities that will join our cause after the relevant invitation of the Municipality. Students will be informed and will in turn, as European Mobility Week ambassadors, inform the pedestrians and other citizens on the message of sustainable mobility. Relevant material will be disseminated and relevant works of the participants will be exposed. A cargo bike will also be exposed in order to familiarize the public with green logistics. Car user will be encouraged to leave their car in parking stations nearby and enjoy the pedestrianized city centre.

Car-free day Car-free day

Serres carries out a Car-Free Day 2017 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
A section of the most central street of our city, Karamanli street, will be closed to traffic with the official participation of the Serres Police Direction and the Traffic Police department. The section is next to a pedestrianized area and it will soon be reformed with traffic calming measures and cycling path included. The relevant construction works will start during Autumn 2017.
