Car-free day Car-free day

Elverum kommune (Elverum) carries out a Car-Free Day 2017 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Closing parts of the main street (Storgata), and replacing carparking with small park areas, flea market, cycle track, testing of electric bikes, bike auction and more. Political discussion on local environment and sustainability. Stands with different local environment groups.
Publishing of new bike analysis for the city. Information about work on better bus services and bike paths as part of city planning. Information about new zero emission neighbourhood planned in the city, with plans for shared and invironmentally friendly transportation to and from. (All of this on Wednesday 20th September, because of other activities on 22 September.) Permanent marking on walkways and bike paths; "Thank you for walking" and "Thank you for biking", decorated by young children in art school.
