Activities within the week Activities within the week

Dingli organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2017, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
17th September 2017
On this day we also commemorate Jum Ħad-Dingli. In the morning we will also be organising a treasure hunt for kids under the age of 18. Items will be hidden around the locality as well as other challenges will be organised. The idea is to promote walking as an alternative especially for short destinations within the village in order to reduce traffic within the village and also reduce pollution, increasing open spaces within the locality. The event is organised by Għaqda Talent Dingli.

On the day we will also be inaugurating a set of 6 art installations featuring Local traditional games which will be set around the locality. This will help in promoting the old traditional games but also raise awareness about the necessity for open spaces for our children to be able to enjoy the locality as we used to do in the past.

We will also organise events for the car free day. Event will encourage pedestrianisation, promotion of the road space as a shared space, use of non-car modes.

18th September 2017
An activity will be organised in the village square where kids and teenagers will be making the shape of a bicycle to promote the use of bicycles in the locality similar to the image below. The kids and teenagers will then be going for a bicycle ride around the locality. The event will also be open for adults who wish to join in. Dr. Bike sets up a repair garage at the main square to assist residence in repairing their bikes. BMX-Program for children at main square with BMX bicycle experts showing tricks on their bikes.Experts in challenges like ALIVE will also be invited. The event is to be organised by Għaqda Mużikali Santa Marija. Kids attending M.U.S.E.U.M. Boys and Girls and Oratorju Salesjani will also join in.

21st September 2017
A pedometer challenge will be organised. We already have the confirmed participation of St Patricks Club, Mellieħa Club and the Savio Athletics Club. This will be organised by Kumitat Festa Esterna. We will continue building upon the success achieved during last year’s edition. Event will be from Ħad-Dingli to the Mtaħleb chapel. Participants who do not have a mobile will be given a pedometer to count how many paces were done in the shortest time. This will encourage more people to walk instead of using cars to arrive from one destination to another. This event attracts a lot of participants. This awareness campaign will be raised by the local figure heads such as the parish priest and councillors to encourage more people to use walking as a method of transportation. Event will encourage pedestrianisation, promotion of the road space as a shared space, use of non-car modes

22nd September
A workshop for kids and parents will be organised where a nutritionist will explain the benefits of a healthy lifestyle including the benefits of using alternative methods to transportation. A brainstorming session will be organised on what may be done in the locality to reduce pollution and alternative means of transport. The Minster for Transport will also be invited for the event as well as an expert on climate and LESA. The event will also seek to address contribution to the improvement of local air quality levels. Residents will have time for a Q&A. The activity is also aimed to highlight difficulties cyclists face on the road. A workshop will be organised for kids to teach them how to look after their bicycle, and building one from scratch. An athlete who participates in races and cycling will also be invited for the workshop. This event will be organised by the Dingli Scouts Group.

23rd September 2017 : On this day the Queen’s Baton will be passing through Dingli. We will be promoting sports in the locality. The village core, a hub of activity will only be accessible on foot or by bike. The event will be coordinated by the Dingli Swallows Football Club Youth Nursery.
