Permanent measures Permanent measures

Roma (Rome) implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
Launch of free-floating bike-sharing schemes
On-going construction sites to create new cycling lanes and interconnect them with the collective transport network. Supply of cycle racks in schools and offices.
Pedestrianisation
Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Public transport services
Improvement and extension of the public transport network (creation of HOV lanes for public transport modes, new stops, new lines, reserved areas etc)
Development of new technologies to improve public transport
On April 12th the connection between 2 metro lines was inaugurated. S. Giovanni metro station now connects metro A and the newly built Metro C
Traffic calming and access control scheme

Car-free day Car-free day

Roma (Rome) carries out a Car-Free Day 2018 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Sunday, September 16, from 10.00 to 19.00, the #VIALIBERA initiative will create a cycle / pedestrian network that will cross the city centre of Rome with completely or partially off-limits roads for cars and scooters. The route will affect more roads. Download the map and discover the completely pedestrianized streets and those only partially. Parking prohibited along the sections involved from 8.30 to 20.30.
