Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
16 September
Road Safety Awareness Literature available on cycle safety which provides tips on safer cycling and 'Child Safety in cars' advising on keeping children safe while travelling in the car
17 September
'Get Back on Your Bike' Workshops - Race Face will hold 2 sessions of 1.5 hours advising members of the public on cycling skills and safety, correct maintenance, bike fit, road skills and cornering techniques.
18 September
High visibility vests being distributed throughout County Galway, through Council Offices, free of charge.
19 September
Road Safety Awareness Literature available on cycle safety, 'Look Out, Stand Out' and Mobile phone use whilst driving
20 September
Permanent measure promoting a sustainable mode of travel - bike rack installed in the admin. area of An CheathrĂș Rua, Co. Galway.
21 September
Permanent measure - disability works: installation of a dropped kerb to aid wheelchair users in Parkmore, Tuam, Co. Galway.
High visibility vests being distributed at Galway Co. Council headquarters in Galway city, free of charge.
22 September
Car Free Day is promoted throughout County Galway - it encourages members of the public to walk, cycle or use public transport on this day
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
No area will be closed to traffic
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Lowering of pavements
