Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Bağdat Street, which is
-one of the most popular street for shopping and recreation
-an attractive location for both residents of İstanbul and the tourists
-a main 4-lane axis carrying a heavy traffic load and providing the connection among the central areas in the transport system of the Anatolian side of the city (İstanbul)
is going to be closed to traffic.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Other: Organization of bicycle tours on national holidays; planning to implement the project of “cycle to the game” including also a huge bicycle park to promote soccer fans to reach the Fenerbahçe Stadium i
Pedestrianisation
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
  • Other: Use of eligible materials to achieve calmer traffic; specisifically the adoption of the idea as "less asphalt, safer streets" and using stone instead of asphalt
Accessibilities
