School Bike Shelter Competition - Kildare County Council calls for entries from Primary and Post-Primary schools for their chance tow in a Bike Shelter for their school.
22 September
Cycle Café - Kildare County Council launches a number of Cycle Café schemes in County Kildare
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Other: Installation of Cycle Cafés in County Kildare.
Pedestrianisation
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
  • Extension or creation of new greenways
  • Other: Created a one-way system at Academy street, Kildare town. Widened footpaths along school routes in Leixlip and Celbridge.
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
  • Reduction of outside parking zones
  • Create park and ride stations
  • Other: Created school zones. Removed parking areas in Kildare town. Plans for Park and Stride areas in County Kildare.
